Meditations on a Crimson Shadow is a piece of Cardassian literature by the writer Eleta Preloc. It deals with the Cardassian Union's attempts to conquer the galaxy, and features wars between the Cardassian people and the Klingons, the Bajorans and the United Federation of Planets.

It was a favorite novel of Elim Garak who gave away copies of the novel on at least two occasions. In the year 2370, he gave a copy to Julian Bashir, Before he read the novel, he asked Garak who wins the war, to which Garak responded "Who do you think?". (DS9 episode: "The Wire")

Garak later gave the copy that belonged to Enabran Tain to Captain Jean-Luc Picard as a gift during the withdrawal of Federation and Starfleet personnel from Cardassia. (TNG novel: The Crimson Shadow)

In 2385, Altek Dans read Meditations on a Crimson Shadow. (DS9 novel: Ascendance)
