Chairman Melkinat was the leader of Tenara's government in the early-2360s and the father of Gretna Melkinata.
In 2364, Melkinat was forced to ask the Federation for assistance stopping raids by the M'dok against his world. Unfortunately, the efforts of Captains Picard and Sejanus were initially unsuccessful and Zhelnogra, Tenara's capital, was attacked. During the attack, Melkinat fought against the M'dok invaders and killed at least one attacker before being severely wounded and eventually dying. (TNG novel: The Captains' Honor)
