The Melkot (or Melkotians) are a telepathic and xenophobic civilization from the Theta Kiokis system in the Alpha Quadrant. The Melkot used their telepathic powers to punish aliens who entered their space without permission. The USS Enterprise made first contact with the Melkot in 2268. (TOS episode: "Spectre of the Gun")

During his captaincy of the USS Enterprise-B, John Harriman was forced to address a problem with the Melkot. His resolution of the situation later earned him the Zee-Magnees Prize. (ST short story: "Hour of Fire")

The Melkot joined the Federation just before Betazed. Their cranial bodies are able to levitate by a means of psychokinesis. (ST reference: The Worlds of the Federation)

In June of the year 2376, a Melkotian woman visited Quark's on Deep Space 9, and enjoyed a couple of drinks. (DS9 - Mission Gamma novel: Twilight)
