Mendez was a 23rd century Human woman. She served in Starfleet as a communications officer aboard the Federation starship USS Enterprise in 2270 under the command of Captain James T. Kirk.
Biography[]
By 2270, Mendez was a relatively young, inexperienced officer.
In 2270, Mendez translated a Klingon message intercepted by Nyota Uhura. Later, she alerted Spock to sensor readings showing either wholesale changes to the geography of Taygeta or mechanical trouble, which Spock verified as a true phenomenon. Montgomery Scott discovered a subspace harmonic similar to a Taygetan song, and Mendez was asked to constantly monitor the harmonic. Eventually Spock realized the song was part of Taygetan psychokinesis that altered their planetary environment. (TOS novel: The Tears of the Singers)
