Merope was a star system located within Federation space in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants.
History and specifics[]
The Merope system's orbit was the location of a number of planets, including Merope IV.
It was located not far from a system which had been the colonial destination of the 21st century Earth colony ship Stephen Hawking. However, that system had been destroyed by the doomsday machine encountered by the starship USS Enterprise.
In the 23rd century, Starfleet surveyed the system, and in the 2220s decade the fourth planet was colonized by Earth settlers.
In the year 2267, the Enterprise visited the system to relocate Hawking survivors. (TOS novel: Across the Universe)
