Messier 1138 was an astronomical object such as a galaxy, nebula or supernova remnant, the 1138th such object listed in the Messier Catalogue.

History[]

In 2270, Captain James T. Kirk mentioned Messier 1138 on the bridge of the starship USS Enterprise after an Orion pirate ship stole a drug from a Federation freighter that was needed to save Spock's life. Kirk focused single mindedly on where the ship went, and said facetiously that he didn't care if it came from from the far side of M1138 or was "powered by ten million invisible gerbils". (TAS - Log Five novelization: The Pirates of Orion)

As the Messier catalogue only goes up to number 110, and Kirk was being facetious, the object may be nonexistent.
