Metorapan was an analgesic commonly used to treat pain from severe traumatic injuries, such as disruptor wounds.

In less than 1% of cases metorapan could cause a potentially fatal allergic reaction. The probability increased exponentially for past victims of polywater intoxication, as was the case for a female Deferi who was shot nonfatally during a Breen boarding action against a Deferi freighter in 2409. She was instead treated with a hypospray of bicaridine.

Metorapan was not addictive and was thus preferred to bicaridine. (STO mission: "Cold Comfort")

Wesley Crusher was known to be allergic to metorapan. (TNG episode: "The First Duty")
