Mezat Z'ar was a 23rd century man. He served in Starfleet as a security guard aboard the Federation starship USS Enterprise in the 2270s under the command of Captain James T. Kirk.
History[]
In 2274, Z'ar and Sergeant Umeki joined a landing party as the security detachment for Kirk, Spock, Hikaru Sulu, and Nyota Uhura. They were beaming to Iskonia at the invitation of Klingon Commander Kolak to make first contact with the Iskonians and draft a cease fire agreement with Kolak. The invitation was a ruse, however, and shortly after materializing on the surface, the landing party was knocked out with sleeping gas by Omnimind robots.
While most revived within a few minutes, Umeki was unable to revive Z'ar. The anesthesia turned out to be fatal to members of his species. (TOS comic: "Restructuring Is Futile")
