By Febuary 2155, Burch held the rank of lieutenant, and served as an engineer on the Enterprise (NX-01). After Commander Charles Tucker faked his own death, Captain Archer made Burch chief engineer. (ENT novel: The Good That Men Do)
In July 2155, the Enterprise conducted the annual inspection of the UESPA base on Altair VI. Burch with an engineering team quickly corrected the found problems.
