Michael "Mike" Burnham Sr. was a Human scientist in the early 23rd century.

Biography[]

Burnham married fellow scientist Gabrielle and had a daughter named after himself, Michael, in 2226. In the early 2230s, Mike and his family resided on a space station. During their time on the station, Mike would tell his daughter the story of the The girl who made the stars to help her sleep. (Short Treks episode: "The Girl Who Made the Stars")

Eventually, Mike and his wife were recruited into Section 31 and worked on the Daedalus Project. They kept their involvement with Section 31 a secret from their daughter. In 2236, Mike and his family lived on Doctari Alpha. There, they were given a time crystal from fellow operative Leland and were able to build a time-travel suit. Their plan was to use the Alpha Lupi star's supernova to power the crystal for their test run. However, the Klingons were able to track the crystal to Doctari Alpha. As Klingons arrived, Mike told Gabrielle to hide Michael in a closet while he grabbed a phaser in order to fend off the Klingons from discovering their lab. Mike was killed as the charged through the door. Gabrielle was able to power up the suit to go back one hour before the attack, but instead of going back one hour, she went 900 years into the future. (DSC episodes: "Will You Take My Hand?", "Lethe", "The Red Angel", "Perpetual Infinity")
