Lieutenant Mike Cleary was a male Human technician who worked aboard the refit USS Enterprise in the 2270s.

History[]

Prior to his assignment aboard the Enterprise, Cleary had distinguished himself on the USS Potemkin and the USS Sacajawea. (TOS novel: Ex Machina)

In the year 2273, Cleary was working in the ship's engineering section when the refurbished Enterprise participated in the mission to intercept V'Ger. Matthew Decker determined that faulty modules were to blame for the ship’s non-working transporters. Montgomery Scott asked Cleary to put a new backup sensor into the unit, but before he could do it, Cleary reported a red line on the transporters. Starfleet prematurely began to transport Lori Ciana and Sonak, resulting in their deaths. (TOS movie: The Motion Picture and TOS comic: "The Motion Picture")

Cleary watched the number one impulse stack for Scott, after the Enterprise struck a series of mines near the planet of the Guardian of Forever. (TOS - Crucible novel: The Fire and the Rose)

In 2274, from the briefing room, Montgomery Scott ordered Cleary in engineering to engage a cloaking device. Cleary was one of the reduced crew complement of 200 and had been given a class A security clearance for a top-secret stealth mission to rescue the son of a Starfleet commodore. (TOS comic: "The Quality of Mercy")

Cleary's first name of Mike, after the actor who played him, was only given in Ex Machina. His rank was provided in the end titles of The Motion Picture.
