Mike Walsh was a 23rd century Human man, a career Starfleet officer. By the 2270s decade, he had achieved the rank of captain and was serving as commanding officer aboard the Federation starship Constellation II. He was sometimes referred to as "Mike the Greek", even though he was of primarily Irish descent. Walsh had previously served as a junior officer aboard the USS Excalibur, with James T. Kirk.

When the USS Enterprise was placed in command of a task force patrolling near a possible threat Romulan space station in orbit of Levaeri V, Mike Walsh was one of the commanders whose ship was put under Kirk's authority. In order to get to and from the briefing on the USS Inaieu he took a shuttlecraft for he was like Leonard McCoy and didn't care for transporters. He also had a penchant for gambling card games like poker. (TOS - Rihannsu novel: My Enemy, My Ally)
