In starship classification, a mining vessel or mining ship was a starship type fabricated to perform mining operations in space. Its crew used technology like mining beams to extract resources for processing. When also designed to transport these resources, ships of this type were called mining freighters. (ST video game: Armada)
History and specifications[]
In the 2370s decade, mining freighters extracted dilithium from dilithium moons and ferried it to mining stations for processing. (ST video game: Armada)
In 2377, the same freighters could now also extract raw latinum from latinum nebulae and return them to starbases. (ST video game: Armada II)
In 2387, the Romulan mining vessel Narada relied on a drill platform suspended from a rope, to fire a plasma drill into a planet to gather its resources. (ST - Countdown comic: "Number One")
History and specifications[]
Dedicated mining freighters, ships designed for resource extraction and its transport, were in use by several factions in the 2370s decade. (ST video games: Armada, Armada II)
In the 2380s, the Narada was a Romulan mining vessel modified into a dreadnought by the Vault in 2387. (ST - Countdown comics: "Number One", "Number Four")
