In starship classification, the miracle worker flight deck carrier, also known as miracle worker flight-deck cruiser, was a spacecraft type combining the engineering department miracle worker ship with flight-deck carriers. The former was inspired by the chief engineer at the heart of every Constitution-class vessel while the latter was a carrier with a pair of hangar bays. In the 2410s decade, the Khitomer Alliance members operated initially two classes of 2250s-era miracle worker flight deck carriers, Starfleet's Constitution class and the D7 class of the Klingon Defense Force. History and specifics[]
In the 25th century, the Khitomer Alliance recovered Yard 39, a Federation shipyard base with Starfleet starships abandoned there in the year 2259. The Alliance adapted these spaceframes and revived the 23rd century starship classes. This included the 2250s-era variant of the Constitution-class cruiser. At the same time, the 2250s-era, early version of the D7 class was presented to the Klingon High Council. This D7-class variant received a retrofit to return to service. Subtypes[]
Constitution class[]
The revived Discovery-era Constitution class benefitted from a combination of advancements in miniaturization and efficiency optimization. This provided a ship of the class with a surplus of power. Some of the power surplus was dedicated to experimental inter-linked weaponry. Miniaturization freed up space to extend this ship type's already large hangar bays. The hangar bays were fitted with tactical flyer squadrons. This class also carried a console that could summon reinforcing squadrons.
Initially, the class resembled Captain Christopher Pike's USS Enterprise from the year 2257. (STO website: Rise of Discovery: Command the Discovery Era Enterprise and D7!)
The lead ship of the modernized class was a replica of Pike's Enterprise. Specifically, that USS Enterprise entered service during the conflict between the Khitomer Alliance and House of Mo'Kai Matriarch J'Ula in the year 2411. (STO - Rise of Discovery mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")
Typically for starships of the early 23rd century, Discovery-era Constitution-class vessel was equipped with 23rd century phaser beam arrays and photon torpedo launchers. The weapons layout consisted of an advanced photon torpedo launcher and four advanced phaser beam arrays at the fore; one advanced photon torpedo launcher and a pair of advanced phaser beam arrays in the aft. It was equipped with impulse engines, warp core and, like all 25th century Alliance starships, a quantum slipstream drive, enabling it to reach impulse, warp, transwarp and quantum slipstream velocities. This class in particular was fitted with a cyclical quantum slipstream drive. Cloaking was not an innate ability but various mechanisms could be installed to serve as a cloaking device. The hull was modular and could be modified at shipyards interfaces operated by New Romulus Shipyards, Klingon Defense Force Order of Builders and Starfleet Shipyards Operations at Alliance facilities across the Milky Way Galaxy.
Bridge officer stations allowed for a lieutenant commander serving as tactical officer, a commander pulling double duty as engineer and miracle worker, a science officer holding the rank of ensign, a lieutenant commander of any department and a lieutenant doubling as command division officer and member of another department. As a cruiser the Constitution was equipped with a cruiser command array capable of issuing the commands shield frequency modulation and attracty fire. As a miracle worker ship and flight-deck carrier, the class enjoyed built-in innovation mechanics like instinctive rerouting, containment layering, Heisenberg decoupling, plasma conduit purge, ingenious solutions and Barclay maneuver. (STO - Rise of Discovery missions: "Explore the Flotilla", "The Hunt is On", "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")
As an Alliance flight deck carrier, a battle-hardened ship benefitted from absorptive plating, rapid repairs, quick deployment, enhanced plating and polarized lattice-optimized tritanium armor. The latter would seal any transported torpedoes behind bulkheads and deploy DOT-7 repair drones. (STO website: Rise of Discovery: Command the Discovery Era Enterprise and D7!)
Following the Battle of Excalbia on stardate 84999.22[1] in January 2411, which saw the prominent involvement of hero ships from the Federation's past and present, the Discovery-era Constitution was among the flight-deck carriers that received a refit to legendary starship qualifications. (STO - J'Ula's Discovery missions: "The Measure of Morality (Part 2)", "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")
With the deployment of the legendary temporal flight deck carrier of three visual variants with interchangeable saucer section, engineering hull, neck, nacelle pylons and warp nacelles between them. These variants were Constitution, Constitution Beta and Constitution Gamma. (STO website: 10th Anniversary Legendary Starship Bundles: Legendary Temporal Flight-Deck Carrier)
A fourth variant became available during the Klingon Civil War of 2411, the Constitution-class mirror warship, a non-carrier warship type. (STO website: House Divided: The Ship That Smashed the Mirror)
D7 class[]
The D7 class was originally built was a symbol for unity to unite the Klingon Houses under the banner of the Klingon Empire. The class was maintained and updated. The early version of the D7 class returned to service following a retrofit. Bridge officer stations included a tactical officer as lieutenant commander, a combined engineering/miracle worker commander, a science officer ensign, another lieutenant commander not bound to a particular department, and a combined command/universal officer. Its two hangar bays were fitted with tactical attack flyers, the Klingon counterpart to Starfleet's tactical flyers. It carried the 2250s-era render invisible type of cloaking device. A battle-hardened D7 benefitted from absorptive plating, rapid repairs, quick deployment, enhanced plating and the "ruin of our enemies" starship trait. This class was fitted with advanced disruptor beam arrays. In the 25th century, the Discovery-era D7 class cruiser's hull could not be replaced with parts from related starship classes. (STO website: Rise of Discovery: Command the Discovery Era Enterprise and D7!)
The lead ship of the class was the IKS K't'inga, which was maintained by the monks at the Boreth Monastery from the 23rd century to its return to service as L'Rell's flagship in 2411. (STO - Klingon Civil War mission: "Leap of Faith")
