Mirak

A Mirak.

The Mirak are a civilization, a species of humanoid beings native to a star system located somewhere in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants. Although the Mirak seem to be felinoid in development, they dislike that characterization, possibly on the basis of their long hatred of the Lyrans, who have much more pronounced felinoid characteristics. Mirak and their starships are often given names that reflect their dislike for catlike beings.

History and specifics[]

The state of the Mirak species was the Mirak Star League. They were known allies of the Hydran Kingdom and long-time enemies of the Lyran Star Empire. Their homeworld was located in the Mirak system, which was in close proximity to the Lyrans and the Klingon Empire. (ST video game: Starfleet Command II: Empires at War)

The addition of the Mirak to the SFC game continuity followed the origin of the games as adaptations of the Star Fleet Battles RPG series. SFC added the Mirak in place of the Kzinti to avoid difficulties in adapting the SFB Kzinti for non-canon gaming, as the Kzinti were derived from works of Larry Niven.
"The Mirak are a race of aggressive predatory carnivores. To be a Mirak is to be a survivor in harsh conditions, against terrible enemies and predators, both on the harsh surface of Mirak worlds, and in the cold dark vastness of space. On approaching a Mirak starship, one is at once struck by… missiles. Many, many missiles."
