"Mission's End, Issue 2" is the second of five issues in the TOS comic miniseries Mission's End from IDW Publishing. Written by Ty Templeton and drawn by Steve Molnar, it was released in April 2009.
Description[]
The Enterprise's last voyage continues with murder at the Federation Council and a deadly spy aboard Kirk's ship. Plus, we give you McCoy's final mission, the most powerful weapon in the known galaxy, the start of a worldwide alien revolution, a new romance for Captain Kirk, and an appearance by Sarek of Vulcan, too.

Log entries[]
- Captain's personal log, stardate 6835.7
- After picking up Ambassador Cassady and Lt. Hadley from the Archernar IV survey satellite, we are proceeding towards the planet's interior, to participate in the Federation treaty ceremony in two days. In addition, I have granted Doctor McCoy time to search for a local plant, mentioned in Dr. Piper's files as a possible cure for Blake's disease.
- We're using the shuttlecraft Columbus for our visit, as transporter and communication beams can't penetrate the hull of this strange world... an ancient and gigantic space craft, abandoned millions of years ago... now populated by a race of sentient spiders who evolved amongst the ruins.
- Mister Scott has the bridge while I lead the landing party. On this... the final assignment for Enterprise and her crew. It seems fitting to end my time as her captain on Archernar IV, where our five-year mission began. This world below us — is like a starship without a crew... a vessel without a heading. At least this peaceful assignment gives me a chance to see old friends... before I must deal with the looming promotion Admiral Nogura has threatened me with...
- Captain's log, supplemental
- From the observation post's external comm bubble, I was able to contact the Enterprise. She has sustained damage to the warp engines, but did not suffer casualties to the crew. The same cannot be said of the orbital station, which was lost with all hands. Mr. Scott has begun repairs, but informs me we cannot fix the warp drive without the coils. It should be noted that Mister Scott's actions were the key factor in saving the ship from destruction, and that he should be nominated for a Pentares Ribbon of Commendation as a reflection of his service.
- Admiral Nogura has instructed me that our main mission is to ensure the ceremony and signing of the treaty go ahead as planned... on schedule, in thirty-nine hours. No mistakes, no surprises. The High Administrator's office has allowed our people to take over security for the event. So much for a peaceful final mission.
