Mobita is a non-aligned planet in the Mobia sector of the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrant, located within the Federation-Klingon Neutral Zone. It is the homeworld of the Mobian and Togota civilizations.
Background[]
Mobita is younger than Earth and appears green from orbit. The planet supports various terrain, including jungles. Animal life includes monkey-like primates and small lizards. Mobita has been visited by humanoids from other planets; for instance, Kafrians were familiar to Mobians. However, the Federation considers the world covered under its non-interference directive. (TOS comic: "One of Our Captains Is Missing!")
Within its star system, the nearest planet to Mobita is a ringed gas giant. (TOS comic: "Star Trek Annual 1978")
History[]
At some point after the Federation-Klingon War of 2256-2257 and before the year 2261, the Klingon Empire delivered weapons to worlds like Shad and Mobita to gain a strategic hold along the Federation-Klingon border. In 2261, USS Sacagawea captain James T. Kirk brought this behavior up during a peace conference on Acamar III. (TOS novel: The Captain's Oath)
In 2265, a Klingon battlecruiser sent a small contingent to Mobita for a secret mission to destabilize the planet's government. They would arm the oppressed and marginalized Togota and create a civil war, allowing for Klingons be invited in as saviors. A clandestine visit by Captain James T. Kirk in 2266 exposed these manipulations, and the arrival of the Federation starship USS Enterprise prompted the battlecruiser to leave orbit and abandon its landing party. (TOS comic: "One of Our Captains Is Missing!")
