Molecular desconstruction beam

Interface icon.

The molecular deconstruction beam was a 26th century Federation energy weapon, a form of directed energy that damaged targets it was aimed at. This beam was a weapon equipped on timeships capable of molecular reconstruction. (STO - Agents of Yesterday mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock", STO - Future Proof mission: "Temporal Ambassador")

History and specifications[]

Chronos firing

A green-hued molecular deconstruction beam.

The molecular deconstruction beam was a weapon that became available in the 26th century with the development of molecular reconstruction. This was a mechanic that allowed a ship to subtly alter its atomic structure during combat to gear it for a more offensive, defensive, or fleet support role. (STO - Agents of Yesterday mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Chronologically, these mechanics were first employed on Federation ship classes of Starfleet, the Klingon Defense Force and the Romulan Republic Navy of the 2550s decade that would see action in the pivotal Battle of Procyon V in the year 2554. (STO website: Agents of Yesterdays: 26th Century Ship Stats, 26 Century Dreadnoughts Stats!)

Molecular deconstruction beam

A Universe-class ship fires its MDB.

To employ, a vessel had to build up energy to fuel its molecular reconstruction. The deconstruction beam could be fired when sufficient energy was available, and had to recharged after eats shot. Visually, its Cherenkov radiation appeared as a black, green-framed beam extending from the vessel's bow to the target. The target registered the beam's impact as physical damage, instead of energy damage. Conversely, activating the beam temporarily improved the firing vessel's structural integrity field. (STO website: Agents of Yesterday: 26th Century Ship Stats)

Due to the Temporal Cold War, this technology was acquired by members of the Khitomer Alliance in the 2400s and 2410s, alongside ships of the 26th, 29th and 31st centuries capable of molecular reconstruction. This was limited to starships classified as timeships, but could be retrofitted to older starship classes, which then were rated as "temporal" vessels. This included the Constitution-class temporal light cruiser. (STO - Agents of Yesterday mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock", Temporal Lock Box)

By the year 2411, the following Khitomer Alliance starship classes were rated as temporal starships, and equipped with the molecular reconstruction and molecular deconstruction beam systems: (STO - Agents of Yesterday missions: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock", "The Hunt is On", "Explore the Flotilla")
