Mora Pol was a male Bajoran who lived in the 24th century. Mora was the scientist who first studied Odo. His parents were still alive in 2373. Mora was a cousin of Sito Keral, the father of Sito Jaxa.

Biography

Work with Odo

In 2353, Doctor Sree Yopal assigned Mora to investigate the "unknown sample". (ST - Terok Nor novel: Night of the Wolves)

Due to pressure from the Cardassians, Mora was forced to use forceful means to investigate the sample, including the use of vacuum chamber springs, cytoplasmic separators and protein decompilers. (DS9 episode: "The Begotten")

Mora initially thought the "Odo'ital" was simply organic material, until Odo took the form of the container he was kept in. (DS9 episode: "The Alternate")

Mora believed that when Changelings altered their mass when shapeshifting, they formed four-dimensional lattices in the shape of hyperspheres and tesseracts. Mora also believed Changelings risked losing their mass if they assumed the form of something too small. (DS9 - Millennium novel: The War of the Prophets)

Odo would remain with Mora until he grew frustrated with the experiments and left. (DS9 episode: "The Alternate")

Later career

In 2370, Mora came to Deep Space 9 to seek Odo's help in obtaining permission from Commander Benjamin Sisko to use a runabout to investigate sensor readings from the Gamma Quadrant that pointed to the existence of other shapeshifters like Odo on L-S VI. On the planet, Odo was exposed to volcanic gas that transformed him into a dangerous creature whenever he regenerated. Mora and Julian Bashir were able to purge the gas from Odo's structure. (DS9 episode: "The Alternate")

Mora would later travel to Earth to attempt to help Starfleet find new ways of detecting Changelings. In 2373, Mora and Odo would find common ground together after teaching an infant Changeling how to shapeshift. (DS9 episode: "The Begotten")
