Muldoon was a planet located in Federation space in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrant, the site of a dilithium mining outpost.
History and specifics
With high winds and temperatures, and little rain, Muldoon barely met the qualifications to be a class M planet.
In 2266, a small crew of 20 well-paid volunteers settled on Muldoon to work the mine and oversee a mostly-automated processing facility.
By 2270, during the previous 18 months the miners excavated 1,120,643 tons of raw crystals, which were shipped out monthly to Starfleet fueling stations. After their contract expired with Starfleet, they signed with the Galactic Trading Corporation.
In 2270, while investigating missing dilithium deliveries throughout the Federation, the starship USS Enterprise visited Muldoon. James T. Kirk and Yeoman Weinberg met with the miners, who explained the new contract and that their most recent shipment had been picked up by the freighter Interstella.
Muldoon's signed contracts were later used as evidence in Harry Mudd's trial. (TOS - Mudd's Angels short story: "The Business, As Usual, During Altercations")
