A muon is a type of elementary particle, similar to an electron, which has a negative electric charge. Muons are classified as lepton particles, and are about 200 times heavier than electrons. (ST reference: The Star Trek Encyclopedia)

History[]

A starship traveling in battle mode will leave a definite trail of muon particles that can be traced afterwards. When the crews of the USS Enterprise and ChR Bloodwing faked a battle between them, they were careful to create descriptions of the battle that matched the muon trail movements of the ships that could be traced back to them. (TOS - Rihannsu novel: My Enemy, My Ally)

By the late 2250s, the N'shaii had developed a muon weapon technology which produced a muon burst and caused severe damage to an enemy starship. (TOS - My Brother's Keeper novel: Constitution)
