The Narvasam Stelas class, also known as F-2 and Nestar class ("star nest") in Federation Standard, was a 23rd century Romulan space station, a repair facility in the Romulan Star Empire's High Command service by the 2260s decade. (FASA RPG modules: Romulan Ship Recognition Manual, The Romulans)

History and specifications[]

This type of defensive outpost was one of the mainstays of the Imperial Navy's Outpost Division which were deployed in sensitive areas such as the Federation-Romulan Neutral Zone and the Klingon border. The Nestar-class stations were powered by matter/antimatter generators that were backed up by auxiliary generators that operated on principles similar to that of an impulse engine. Similar such reactors were found on Starfleet space stations which were used for energy generation rather then moving the station.

Typically, the crew of these outposts were charged with monitoring several posts along with automated sensor's on a perimeter. This led to the Romulan empire's finest electronic surveillance, security and intelligence assets being found at such stations. The commanding officers of these far-off sentry towers were of a special breed in that they were frequently called to make life or death decisions on a split-second notice. Furthermore, the stations were augmented with several smaller starships assigned under its overall command.

Stations of this type stood 780 meters tall, had a diameter of 800 meters, and weighed 127.000 tons. They were equipped with deflector shields but initially unarmed. The Type 1 configuration entered service on reference stardate 1/85. By reference stardate 2/02, Type 7 remained unarmed. Type 11, active from 2301, was equipped with missile launchers and plasma weapons. It was upgraded to Type 12 in 2318, and Type 14 in 2337. Over the span of these years, the number of crewpeople rose from 163 in 1/85, 178 in 2/02 to 235 in 2301-2318. By 2337, it had been reduced to 220. In addition, non-permanent "other personnel" ranged from 150 and 200 to 300 people. (FASA RPG module: The Romulans)

A Romulan spacedock of this class orbited Romulus in the 2380s decade. Nero bade goodbye to his wife Mandana from this spacedock in 2387 when his Romulan mining freighter, the Narada, departed Romulus for the Hobus star system. (ST - Countdown comic: "Number One")

The Romulan Republic and its allies engaged with the Tal Shiar forces on Gasko Station, which lay within the area of space claimed by the Republic. (STO - From the Ashes mission: "Gasko Blues")
