The Nautilus class was a 24th century Federation starship class, a colony ship and variant subclass of the 22nd century Daedalus-class science vessel, in Starfleet service in the 2550s decade. (STO - Agents of Yesterday mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock", STO website: Agents of Yesterday: 26th Century Ship Stats)
Service history and specifications[]
The Daedalus-class was a 140-meter long[1] 22nd century United Earth vessel that experienced revivals in the following centuries. In the 2270s decade, the Daedalus class operated as science vessel and had a standard crew complement of 229[1]. (STO - Agents of Yesterday mission: "In the Shadow of Cestus")
Structurally, the ship consisted of a pair of saucer sections integrated with the secondary hull, and two warp nacelles suspended on nacelle pylons on either side of the engineering hull. The horizontal saucer formed the dorsal sections of the secondary hull. At its bow, another saucer was held vertically. It was notable for yellow-shining segments on either side of the "yo-yo" shaped section. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")
In the 2360s, the Nautilus class operated as colony ship. In the year 2366, Romulan Commander Tarl contacted the USS Enterprise-D with the offer of a stolen Borg artifact in exchange for a ship and supplies for her and her crew. Captain Jean-Luc Picard, after accepting her terms, agreed to provide her with a Nautilus-class ship upon their reaching Starbase 718. (ST novel: Federation)
By the 26th century, the Nautilus class operated as science vessel. For the USS Nautilus (NCV-91000), Starfleet incorporated several new systems on the Nautilus, many of which based on nanotechnology developed in conjunction with the Borg Cooperative, like the nanoprobe contagion field. As a result of the Temporal Cold War, the class was also refitted into temporal science vessel, incorporating timeship technologies such as the molecular reconstruction mechanic and the weapinized molecular deconstruction beam. (STO website: Agents of Yesterday: 26th Century Ship Stats)
Ships of the class, including Nautilus, participated in the Battle of Procyon V alongside the USS Enterprise-J against the Temporal Liberation Front and their Sphere Builder allies in 2554. (STO - Future Proof missions: "Ragnarok", "Battle of Procyon V")
The Nautilus was armed with phaser banks and photon torpedo launchers . As a combat-oriented timeship, it was able to fire a molecular deconstruction beam at enemy targets. Defensive systems included deflector shields and tractor beams. (STO - Agents of Yesterday mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")
Due to the opening of a new front of the Temporal Cold War in the year 2410, the Federation Temporal Agency and its Temporal Agent Timot Danlen worked with Khitomer Alliance authorities native to the 25th century. Some commanding officers of that time were recruited as temporal agents, and given access to starship classes of the 26th and 31st centuries. This included the 2550s-era Nautilus and 2270s-era Daedalus classes, which now shared their technical capabilities as temporal science vessels. (STO - Agents of Yesterday mission: "The Once and Future Agent")
Livery[]
In the 25th century, the design of the Nautilus-class temporal science vessel allowed its commanding officer to choose from different designs of hull materials, which could be modified further at shipyards. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")
Furthermore, the installation of deflector shields from specific factions modified the hull appearance, including shields from the Reman Resistance, the Breen Confederacy and the Dominion. (STO missions: "Coliseum", "Cold Storage", "Boldly They Rode")
