For the primary universe counterpart, see Neanderthal.

In the mirror universe, the Neanderthals were a bipedal species on Earth prior to and during the development of Terrans.

The Neanderthals were systematically hunted down and killed by early Cro-Magnon man. Mass graves strewn with shattered Neanderthal bones would attest to mankind’s primal urge to genocide. Terran schoolteachers would proudly lecture young students on this long-ago slaughter, with the story embodying all of the species’ most valued traits. The Cro-Magnons were said to have shown cleverness and teamwork in defeating their physically superior foes, displaying a greater hunger for survival and dominance than the "stupidly peaceful" Neanderthals.

The term "Neanderthal" would come to be used as a term of abuse for pacifists, intellectuals, and other types considered socially backward. (Decipher module: Through a Glass, Darkly)
