Necti was a a strong alcoholic drink that was poisonous to some species.

History[]

It was Birani beverage. It was made from reactant fluid distilled in the blood of Necti warriors. It was very strong and some Klingons enjoyed it, as it left a satisfying burn feeling, sometimes damaging the stomach as well as the brain; as for Humans, Ferengi, and Romulans, it was coinsidered a poison. When drank too fast it caused death even to Klingons. Gowron liked this drink and he described its smell as that of fresh grave ground.

It was available at the BItuHpa establishment on the planet Balka, where Gowron enjoyed it when they visited the planet in order to find weapons dealers.

Learning that the bartender Meska arranged the business, Gowron grabbed him and brought a glass of Necti in front of him, with Meska trying to keep his mouth shut. He refused to talk, and Gowron tried to force a sip into his mouth. He lied he had no knowledge who was bringing assassin probes to the sector, but because Gowron did not believe him, splashed some on his face, temporarily blinding him. Meska admitted that shipments came all the time and Gowron let him down, allowing him to rub his eyes but when he tried to twist out of his grasp, Gowron poured the rest of the glass on him making him screaming, confessing which ships bring weapons from the Soltaris system.

Before leaving, the Klingon called Pok, son of Torghn, to bring the half-empty bottle of Necti. Meska was terrified begging for his life, when he saw Gowron drinking the rest of it and throwing the empty bottle to the back whole before leaving. (ST novel: Klingon)
