Neil Armstrong was a Human male who was born on Earth on August 5, 1930. An astronaut, Armstrong commanded the Apollo 11 flight to Luna. On July 21, 1969, Armstrong made history as the first human to walk on the surface of Luna. Among the millions of people to watch the event on television were Gary Seven and Roberta Lincoln. The United Federation of Planets Starfleet later honored Armstrong by naming several vessels after Armstong, as well as a starship class. A large lake created on the surface of Luna which was visible from Earth was named Lake Armstrong in honor of Armstrong. (TNG movie: Star Trek: First Contact; TTN novel: Taking Wing)

In late 2379, Lieutenant Commander Nidani Ledrah believed that Captain William T. Riker had named the shuttlecraft Armstrong after Neil, but he informed her it was named after jazz musician Louis Armstrong. (TTN novel: Taking Wing)
