The Nenlar were a warp-capable species native to a world located in Sector 48472, in the Beta Quadrant.(VOY - Gateways novel: No Man's Land)
Biology
The Nenlar are a humanoid species that looked similar to the Cardassians save for the species’ trademark arrogance. They are about two and a half meters, and quite powerfully built. Possessing small, iridescent scales covered what flesh was visible, but they had long black hair and the female had breasts, indicating that they were mammalian.
Their hands had long, tapered fingers and a peculiar hornlike growth protruding from the wrists. In addition they had slightly elongated mouths similar to muzzles and they had vestigial, stumpy tails.
History
The Nenlar homeworld was severely damaged in a war many centuries ago by the Iudka. Their planet’s recovery was a long, painful path. The Nenlar eventually managed to reach the stars.
Using faster-than-light travel they searched for ways to enrich their world-new crops, new technology, new ideas. Many intrepid souls left their homeworld altogether, to scratch out new lives for themselves elsewhere.
Others however like to observe first, then make first con-tact on their own terms, once they determine a species is not a threat.
Culture
Due to their traumatic experience with the Iudka the Nenlar have an ingrained fear of being dominated, taken advantage of, again. Their interactions with other species make them appear overl anxious and fearful.
