The phenomenon is one that caused the nacell's pressure to build until a point of explosion, threatening the ship. The ship was saved by Jack Crusher and Pugg Joseph severing the nacell of the ship. While attempting to sever the nacell with hand phasers, Lieutenant Commander Jack Crusher was killed in an explosion that occurred after the nacelle was disconnected from the ship.
