Net

A net capturing Spock.

A net was a technological innovation made from a mesh of textile string or rope arranged in a cohesive pattern.

History and specifics[]

Some nets were used for trapping by hunters or combatants. On the planet Triskelion, one thrall used a net while fighting a young Vulcan. (TOS - Vulcan's Soul novel: Exiles)

On an asteroid in the Nabu system, Targu and his men captured a starship Enterprise landing party in a net. (TOS comic: "The Devil's Isle of Space")

On the Enterprise, James T. Kirk and Spock tried to capture Ewass in a net. (TOS comic: "Passage to Moauv") On Treva, the Silver Paladin's mercenaries captured Data in a quoghart net. (TNG novel: Survivors)

They were also used for trapping underwater. On Argo, the Aquans captured Kirk and Spock in a net. (TAS episode: "The Ambergris Element")

Spock was caught in a Sigma fishman's net while swimming underwater in an environmental suit on the globular planet. (TOS comic: "Nor Any Drop to Drink")

Safety nets were used to protect people from high falls. (SCE eBook: Paradise Interrupted) Ekaran once used the phrase "healing without a net" when Sarjenka could not rely on her medical tricorder readings. (CoE eBook: Remembrance of Things Past, Book I)

Nets were also used in sports such as tennis and volleyball. (VOY novel: Mosaic; SA novel: Starfleet Academy)
