The Times was founded as part of New York City's rebuilding efforts after the Eugenics Wars, with surviving reporters from The New York Times serving as its initial correspondents.
On 6 April 2063, the Times published an account of Phoenix's warp flight and first contact with Vulcans, datelined Bozeman, Montana, titled "Humans go faster than light, make contact with aliens". The article quoted Zefram Cochrane and Lieutenant Frank Christopher.
