Newland Yanagimachi Rift was a human dog trainer and entertainer in the 23rd century, and was married to singer Philomena Thetis. In the 2240s, Rift established the Warp-Speed Classic Vaudeville Company with Marcellin and Amelinda Lukarian's father. Rift remained with the company in 2264, when the USS Enterprise toured the Federation Phalanx with the company aboard. (TOS novel: Enterprise: The First Adventure)
