Nicky the Nose is a character in the Dixon Hill stories.
Fictional biography[]
His real name was Nick Palatomo. A mobster, he owned the 20th century Blue Delilah nightclub in San Francisco, a front for racketeering, illicit casinos, and other criminal activities. He had a metal nose — according to legend, when he was young it was bitten off during a street fight. He was corrupt and callous, with a twisted sense of humor and honor. He admired Dixon Hill's bravery, and the two treated each other with respect.
When the Golden Serpent was smuggled into the city and went missing, Nicky sought it for its monetary value in gold, as well as to keep his rival Jeremiah Fatmann from possessing it. Corrupt Mexican import official Jorge Villa Lobos got scared when archeologist Harry Goodwin was murdered for the serpent, and sought help from Nicky. Nicky sent a guard to Lobos' residence, but Fatmann's mobsters killed Lobos and injured the guard. (Last Unicorn RPG - Holodeck Adventures module: Dixon Hill and the Case of the Golden Serpent)
- His name was spelled Nicki in the sourcebook.
He was pudgy. His false nose was made of tin. (TNG novelization: Star Trek: First Contact)
History[]
In the year 2373, Jean-Luc Picard interacted with a hologram of Nicky the Nose while running the Dixon Hill program on the holodeck of the USS Enterprise-E. Nicky was at his nightclub, and Picard used a tommy gun from one of his associates to kill approaching Borg. (TNG movie, novelization & comic adaptation: Star Trek: First Contact)
