The USS Nightingale was a Federation Starfleet hospital ship, operating in the 23rd century, under the command of Captain Raelius. It was probably Miranda class, according to Leonard McCoy. (TOS novel: Aftershock)
- McCoy describes the ship - as seen from the shuttlecraft he was in at the time as having "a single broad hull and twin nacelles. Miranda Class, if he remembered correctly".
- However, the novel's illustrations, including the cover, depict the ship as Daedalus class; if so, it might be the same ship as the USS Nightingale (NCC-192), repurposed as a hospital ship. In that case, McCoy might have been mistaken about its class. Alternatively, the ship may be Miranda-class with the illustrations being in error.
History[]
At some point in the 23rd Century, the ship picked up Starfleet cadets from the Disaster Relief Service Club, including Spock and Leonard McCoy, and traveled to planet Playamar which was suffering damage from earthquakes, to provide relief. In addition to providing relief, the cadets were able to determine the source of the quakes - which were artificial - and put an end to them. (TOS novel: Aftershock)
