The Nimitz class was a type of Federation starships, a tier 6 heavy battlecruiser class in Starfleet service in the 23rd and 25th centuries. (DSC episode: "Battle at the Binary Stars", Shipyards reference: Starfleet Ships 2151-2293, STO missions: "Age of Discovery", "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Livery[]

In the 25th century, the design of the Nimitz-class heavy battlecruiser allowed its commanding officer to choose from different designs of livery, which could be modified further at starbases. These options included numbered Types, NX, Upgrade and Veteran. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Furthermore, the installation of deflector shields from specific factions modified the hull appearance, including shields from the Reman Resistance, the Breen Confederacy and the Dominion. (STO missions: "Coliseum", "Cold Storage", "Boldly They Rode")

Service history[]

Class had entered service by 2256. (DSC episode: "Battle at the Binary Stars", Shipyards reference: Starfleet Ships 2151-2293, STO missions: "Age of Discovery", "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Following the loss of many Kurtzman-Beyer warp drive-based vessels at Yard 39 in 2259, the class was phased out of service in favor of Cochrane-Archer warp assemblies. Following the recovery of Yard 39 in 2410, the Starfleet updated the class with modern technology and it re-entered service as a tier-6 spacecraft.
