Njurans were an advanced humanoid civilization native to the planet Njura.

History[]

In the 13th century, Njurans established colonies on four neighboring worlds of their star system, creating an empire that lasted for nearly 1,000 years.

In the 23rd century, a generation-long civil war proved too expensive for the homeworld, leading to freedom for the colonies. A peace treaty in 2260 officially instituted democracy on Njura, with the emperor becoming an elected president.

In 2270, Njurans celebrated ten years of disarmament with a peace parade and stadium gala. Behind the scenes, President Kring and his advisors conspired to restore his former empire. The conspiracy was exposed when Spock revealed farming combines were actually disguised tanks. At the suggestion of James T. Kirk, knowing that Njurans would monitor him more closely in the future, Kring publicly blamed a scapegoat rather than lose power. (TOS comic: "To Err Is Vulcan")

Culture and technology[]

Electricity is provided by power streams transmitted to satellites by centralized nuclear reactors. Environmentally friendly electric cars provide ground transportation. Njurans sweeten cakes and tea with varta, a native type of honey. Areas of scientific study include advanced physics, electrobionics, and ion drive propulsion.
