Nolth is the fourth planet in the Halat star system in the Orion Neutrality Area in the Beta Quadrant. It the only class M planet in its system, and it has one moon. It is home to an Orion colony.

Nolth was originally inhabited by the Hathine, its dominant native race and founding member of the Nine Worlds Confederation, but they were wiped out by Rigellian fever, leaving only their former Orion slaves alive and their beautiful cities intact. With the aid of Orion refugees from the Outer Dark, Nolth was quickly rebuilt and it experienced a renaissance of Orion culture. It had a largely peaceful history since.

Despite having a surprising number of 325 major families, together with their households and retainers, this was the most peaceful of Orion colonies in the late 23rd century. The world was governed by an elected planetary council, which in turn elected the planet’s ruling Judge. At this time, Judge Fyash Motin the Fast ruled for over 32 standard years.

Nolth did a busy trade, with Federation, Klingon and other merchants, while some entrepreneurs funded trading expeditions as far as the Triangle and beyond. Its most famous product was Nolth wool, taken from mutant sheep-like creatures that grew to monstrous size: typically 15 to 20 metres long and massing over 25 tons.

It also traded heavily in pharmaceuticals and medicinal products, with development funded by various anonymous sources. Security around the drug industry is extremely tight, and though Starfleet was certain that Nolth produces many addictive substances that enter Federation markets, it was so far unable to prove it, stop it, or even trace the distribution network. There were unconfirmed reports that an anti-aging drug was secretly developed here.

It has a total surface area of 426,384,790 square kilometers and, with 73% land mass, a total land area of 311,260,890 square kilometers. About 14% of Dav'ir's makeup is normal metals, 26% is radioactive elements, 7% is special minerals and 2% is gemstones, with only trace amounts of industrial crystals.

It has a warm temperate climate, a class M terrestrial atmosphere and a 20 hour day. (ST module: The Orions: Book of Common Knowledge)

It had a technological/socio-political index of 999974-74 and a planetary trade profile of DCBEBBC/A(A).
