Nonspace

The region of nonspace.

Nonspace is a region within the Milky Way Galaxy, an alternate reality or pocket universe which could be accessed through a conduit at the galactic core.

History and specifics[]

Nonspace appeared as a constantly-shifting panorama of colors and substances. The laws of time and physics were fundamentally different in nonspace. One property was that matter and energy could be manipulated by conscious thought. Although it was possible for people and spacecraft to transition to and from nonspace, subspace communication was blocked, as if subspace did not exist there to propagate a signal. Structural integrity, warp power, chronometers, life support, power cells, helm and even gravity only worked when magic was employed.

In the 17th century, Megans from the nonspace planet Megas-Tu visited Salem, Massachusetts on Earth. They were able to draw upon the energies from nonspace, but their magic so frightened the local population that many Megans were burned alive in the Salem witch trials.

In 2269, during an exploration of the Shapley Center, the Federation starship USS Enterprise inadvertently traveled through a matter-energy whirlwind into nonspace, where the crew discovered Megas-Tu.

From nonspace, one could access limbo. During a trial of humanity conducted by Megans, Lucien was threatened with confinement there. (TAS episode & Log Three novelization: The Magicks of Megas-Tu)
