The Norpin colony is a Federation colony located on planet Norpin V. In the 23rd century, the Norpin colony became a popular destination for those who wished to retire and live a quiet life.

In the year 2294, Montgomery Scott decided to retire from Starfleet and departed for the colony aboard the USS Jenolen. En route]] to the colony, the Jenolen encountered a Dyson sphere and was forced to crash land on the surface of the sphere. Scott and Ensign Matt Franklin were the only two survivors of the crash, and they decided to wait around and wait to die, until Scott come across the idea of suspending themselves in the Jenolen transporter buffer.

Scott was later recovered by the crew of the USS Enterprise-D in 2369, however Franklin's pattern had degraded to much and he was unrecoverable. When Scott was later granted loan of a shuttlecraft by Captain Jean-Luc Picard, he decided not to head for the Norpin colony, and instead wanted to roam the galaxy.
