"not Eden" natives were an extinct, unnamed indigenous humanoid civilization of an unnamed lifeless planet near Starbase 13 in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrant, a world Spock had described only as "not Eden".

History and specifics[]

This global civilization had built cities and developed advanced technology including stasis chambers, nuclear power, and an automated weapons system that could fire barrages of nuclear missiles even against orbiting spacecraft. Their language was markedly different from others known to the Federation.

Malevolent, telepathic Faron and Nadira manipulated their species into a battle of the sexes that culminated in nuclear war that wiped out their civilization.

The last act of war survivors was to encase their dying leaders in stasis chambers that looked like sarcophagi, but actually were capable of regenerating the humanoids if they could be placed near fresh energy sources.

No date was estimated for these events, but corpses on the surface had not yet decayed to skeletons, suggesting an event at some point in the 23rd century.

In 2267, during a star charting mission, the starship USS Enterprise beamed up the stasis chambers for study. Once they regained consciousness, the two surviving natives resumed their war, manipulating the crew via telepathy into a deadly battle leading to a saucer separation, with each faction preparing to destroy the other with phasers and torpedoes. (TOS - Star Trek: The Manga - Shinsei Shinsei comic: "'Til Death")
