Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow: The following content contains spoilers!

Nymira[2] Vondect[1], also referred to as 'X', was a female Orion field medic, non-commissioned officer and pirate that was active in 2370s. A former corporal inside the Orion Infantry, she was credited for the creation of treatments which decreased the cellular decline of those who were victims of the isotopic weapons that rebel forces deployed against her side. Though she saw action inside the Orion Nebula, Vondect was discharged from service after she began euthanising near-dead soldiers to end their suffering, including the son of her superior officer. Sentenced to a labour camp, Nymira escaped besides an older prisoner who committed suicide before her. After falling into hard times, she was recruited to the scavenger crew under Captain Nazzak, but later defected to join a makeshift team assembled by Ambassador Worf to stop Emperor Kahless and his cult of followers, the Red Path, despite initial refusals to give up her name, and took part in thwarting the Day of Blood, where she helped to save the life of Chancellor Martok alongside Doctor Beverly Crusher and Commander Sela. After this event, Vondect continued to work alongside her teammates when Starfleet recruited them as bounty hunters that were tasked with capturing three individuals that the Federation wanted, but over the course of their mission, she and her female comrades — B'Elanna Torres and Ro Laren — aired their disillusionment with the United Federation of Planets to Worf. After successfully apprehending their targets, however, the team discovered that Starbase 99 had been infected with a parasite invasion and to prevent the infestation from spreading, the Orion sacrificed herself to destroy the interdimensional doorway and save her teammates, bidding them what was believed to be a final farewell.[3] Unbeknownst to her teammates, however, Vondect was saved by one of those that she had helped capture, Berlinghoff Rasmussen, who she formed a partnership with.[4]
