The Official Star Trek Cooking Manual was a combination TOS travelogue and recipe book written in-universe by Nurse Christine Chapel during her five-year mission aboard the USS Enterprise. Predating both the Star Trek Cookbook and the Federation Passport by 20 years, the manual was published in July 1978, serving as the first licensed book to focus on these topics in Star Trek.
The reference provided short cultural and planetary vignettes accompanying detailed descriptions of a variety of foods served in the Klingon Empire, Romulan Star Empire, and Federation, with a special focus on Vulcan. Chapters also featured favorite dishes from each of the Enterprise bridge crew. For more exotic meals, Chapel provided Earth-analogue ingredients to approximate their taste, adapting some recipes from her work to program them into the Enterprise's food processors.
An introduction similar to the Star Fleet Technical Manual presented an in-universe explanation as to how the book was discovered in the 1970s decade. A real-world appendix offered favorite dishes from the Star Trek actors and Gene Roddenberry.
