Summary[]

Rogue Department of Temporal Investigations agents Whitmore and Hanson are employed by retired Romulan admiral Korvak, providing him with a 23rd century Romulan warbird and transporting him back in time so he can achieve his ambition to fight and defeat Captain Kirk.

Having apprehended Whitmore and Hanson, the USS Hermes follows Korvak back to the last days of Kirk's tenure as captain of the Enterprise, with the ship still badly damaged from the battle at Khitomer.Hidden from both combatants, the Hermes manages to surreptitiously alter the ships' power levels, allowing Kirk to trick Korvak with an apparent frontal attack and then destroy his ship by firing on the unshielded aft section.
