Onto Rantura was a 23rd century Denevan man. He was the younger son of magnate Esaha Rantura, the founder of Rantura Shipping Lines.

Biography[]

Onto was born in the year 2218. (Stardate Magazine vol. 1, Issue 3/4: "Deneva Deception Character Errata")

Onto was a starship designer. (FASA RPG modules: The Federation, Star Trek III Sourcebook Update)

Following his father's death in the 2220s, ownership of the company was shared between Onto and his older brother Jacos Rantura. They worked well together, and a profitable agreement with the Chiokis Starship Construction Corporation led to many projects, including the Deneva-class towship. Onto owned the luxury yacht starship Immaculata. (FASA RPG module: Deneva Deception, Stardate Magazine vol. 1, Issue 2: "Immaculata Class Luxury Yacht")

After his brother died during the blastoneuron infestation of 2267, Onto became Chairman of the Board of Rantura Shipping. He faced increasing challenges during Deneva's struggles to recover economically. (FASA RPG module: Trader Captains and Merchant Princes (2nd edition))

Despite seeking new clients and investing all of his finances to keep the company afloat, Onto soon faced the threat of bankruptcy. Becoming eccentric and despondent, with no hope in sight, he concocted a scam to be held for ransom aboard his luxury yacht, the Immaculata. He and a handful of followers planned to disappear with the ransom money and establish new identities. (FASA RPG module: Deneva Deception)

Soon, however, his company secured contracts with Starfleet to develop a replacement for the K-class space station. The first R1 Investigator-class and R1 Invictus-class stations entered service by the end of 2267. (FASA RPG module: Regula-1 Orbital Station Deckplans)

Onto designed the Samson-class starship, a warp tender to tow the stations to their destination. (FASA RPG module: Star Trek III Sourcebook Update)

Although "Deneva Deception" said a few years had passed since the infestation, the later-published "Regula-1 Orbital Station Deckplans" established that space station development began in 2267, a deal that would reinvigorate the company. Onto's scheme had to occur prior to signing the deal with Starfleet.
The outcome of the kidnapping was based on gameplay. It was unspecified whether Onto designed the Samson-class starship before or after the events of "Deneva Deception".
