Advanced Starship Design Bureau assignment patch in 2411.

Operation Next Step was a 22nd century Federation engineering project, a starship program executed by engineers of Starfleet's Advanced Starship Design Bureau in the 2190s and 2200s decades. (Star Trek Adventures module: Discovery (2256-2258) Campaign Guide)

History and specifics[]

The program was launched to overcome technology integration between Federation members and replace the aging Daedalus-class fleet constructed by United Earth. The program was overseen by Starfleet Command in the year 2190. New ship designs were based on the NX class.

An Engle-class experimental spaceframe was constructed in 2208, before the engineers and members of the ASDB went their separate ways.

The Operation Next Step archives were decades old by 2235. Engineers as the New Berlin Shipyards at Luna dusted off designs that led to the Nimitz-class. The Hiawatha-class was also based on Operation Next Step data. (Star Trek Adventures module: Discovery (2256-2258) Campaign Guide)
