Map of the Orellius sector block.

The Orellius sector block was a region of space, a sector block located in the galaxy's Alpha Quadrant. The block was made of two sectors: the coreward Raveh sector and the rimward Deferi sector. The Khitomer Alliance used the Orellius sector block as an astrometric reference from 2410 until the commencement of the Iconian War. (STO video games: Delta Rising, The Iconian War)

The sector block's name was derived from the Orellius system, which was located in the vicinity of the Helaspont Nebula. (ST reference: Star Charts, STO video game: Delta Rising)

Location of sector block within the Alpha Quadrant

This area was wedged between territories controlled by the Breen Confederacy, Cardassian Union, Ferengi Alliance, and United Federation of Planets. With the latter free part of an alliance, there were no travel restrictions to this space for Khitomer Alliance members. (STO video games: Delta Rising, The Iconian War)

In the distant past, this area of space was settled by the Progenitors. Defera Prime was one of their colonies. They left behind ruins. Some of them evolved into the Deferi, who retained mythology and stories about their "Preserver" forebears. (STO - Cold War mission: "Cold Call")

The Progenitors established the Preserve Archive on Lae'nas III, operated by a holographic guardian. It included stasis chambers, so that individual Progenitors could awaken periodically over billions of years and rejoin their descendants' civilization. (STO - Cold War mission: "Cold Storage")

During the Second Klingon Empire, Chancellor Mow'ga sent a fleet to conquer the enigmatic Breen Confederacy. The fleet was damaged in the Badlands and received aid and repairs from the Deferi. The Klingons now owed a debt of honor to the Deferi, whose peaceful ways would normally be anathema to the warrior people from the Beta Quadrant.

In the early 25th century, the insular Deferi experienced population pressure and began colonizing the two sectors of the Orellius sector block. In the year 2409, they suffered predations by Breen slavers and pirates, threatening the survival of Deferi civilization. Ambassador Surah called for aid from the Klingon Empire, Romulan Republic, and Federation. Although the Klingons and the Federation were involved in the Federation-Klingon War of 2405-2410 at the time, Chancellor J'mpok and Federation ambassador Jiro Sugihara established a cease fire between the warring nations. (STO - Cold War mission: "Cold Call")

Thot Trel sought Progenitor technology and weapons. When he found the Preserver library, he was enraged to find it a place of learning, and ordered its obliteration. An Allied away team defeated the Breen and killed Trel. A Deferi research team arrived at the facility to study its content and welcome awakening Preservers. (STO - Cold War mission: "Cold Storage")

Breen raiders and slavers continued to harass the Deferi in their space. (STO - Cold War missions: "Emancipation (Daily)", "Aiding the Deferi (Daily)")

Later that year, the Borg Collective dropped a Borg lander on the surface of Defera to assimilate Progenitor knowledge and remains. The Khitomer Alliance, landed troops to defend the Deferi against the Borg. Defense was coordinated by Captain Lena Kuzmina of Starfleet and Captain Wek of the Klingon Defense Force. (STO mission: "Borg Invasion of Defera")

As part of the opening strikes in the Iconian War of 2410, the Iconian Empire send its Heralds to Lae'nas III. The Iconians daunted the Preserver warden before leaving the planet. Herald forces destroyed the planet. (STO - The Iconian War mission: "Blood of Ancients")
