The Orestes system was part of the Kobayashi Maru scenario for Starfleet Academy cadets, as the location of the Kobayashi Maru within the simulator's scenario in the late 23rd century. (SA video game: Starfleet Academy)
On a trading mission to the Klingon Empire, the freighter Nystrom Egbert crash-landed on Orestes VII with Fenton Lewis being the sole survivor. He endured there for three years, during which time he mapped eight thousand square kilometres of the planet’s surface. (TNG novel: Masks)
