Orias was a star system, a binary star located in 24th century Cardassian space in the galaxy's Alpha Quadrant. This binary consisted of a primary M class red star, and a K class orange star secondary. (ST reference: Star Charts)

History and specifics

The Orias system's orbit was the location of a number of worlds, including third planet Orias III.

In the year 2371, Starfleet Intelligence suspected a fleet of Cardassian vessels was secretly being built in the system. The Maquis feared this might be a build up to new attacks by the Cardassians so Thomas Riker stole the USS Defiant from Deep Space 9 to investigate. He was prevented from entering the system by a group of Keldon-class vessels. (DS9 episode: "Defiant")

Starfleet's suspicions turned out to be accurate when it was later revealed a secret fleet was being built in the system by the Obsidian Order in a joint operation with the Tal Shiar to destroy the Founders homeworld in the Gamma Quadrant. (DS9 episode: "Improbable Cause", DS9 novel: Rising Son)

After the Dominion War, the system became a protectorate of the Romulan Star Empire. Ethan Locken planned to attack the system with a missile loaded with deadly prion viruses. (DS9 - Section 31 novel: Abyss)

Earlier that year, Kasidy Yates conducted a cargo run to the Orias system where she obtained a shipment of Rakalian p'losie. (DS9 - Avatar novel: Book One)
