For other uses, see Orion.

Orion was a private 23rd century Federation space station owned by Consolidated Galactic Shares, Inc.

History and specifics[]

Orion was a corporate energy research platform that developed various fuel formulations and tested them experimentally on starships. It operated in a star system containing the inhabited class M planet Orgone.

In the year 2268, one fuel test caused a starship to explode, producing a vast fireball that threatened natives on Orgone's surface. After the USS Enterprise failed to dissipate the phenomena with photon torpedoes, the ship orbited Orgone so as to rally an emergency evacuation of the inhabitants. Spock released antimatter into the fireball in an attempt to destroy the burning fuel material at its core, but it left the ship without power. Luckily, the fireball finally destroyed itself before striking the atmosphere. Damaged, the Enterprise was towed by the USS Exeter to Hub Station 6.

An investigation found operations president Varrik Trine had sabotaged the fuel test. He was removed from his position on the station and would be given psychological treatment. (TOS comic: "Trial by Fire!")
