The Orion salvage cruiser, nicknamed "Orion Whaler", was a type of 23rd century Orion starship designed for heavy towing.
Specifications[]
Able to carry more than 10,000 metric tons of cargo, they featured an enhanced tractor beam with double the power of ones aboard Starfleet's Constitution-class ships. They were powered by two warp engines an an impulse engine. These vessels were armed with phasers, rather than disruptors, for the sake of economy, and their hulls were less reinforced than on blockade runners.
Service history and disposition[]
The class entered service in the year 2270, around the time of the Aleriad evacuation. That year, a pair of the first commissioned salvage cruisers ambushed the cadet ship USS William Howe. (FASA RPG module: Denial of Destiny)
