Ornara was a planet located in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants, the third planet in the Delos star system in Federation space. It was the homeworld of the Ornarans.
During the 22nd century, Ornara, and the the neighbouring planet of Brekka, was catalogued by the Federation.
At some point in the same century, Ornara was afflicted by a plague that could be cured by felicium, a plant that grew only on Brekka. Sometime before 2364, the Ornarans were cured but due to felicium's addictive effects, they continued to pay Brekka for the drug, boosting Brekka's economy.
In 2364, only three Ornaran freighters were left operational. The passing USS Enterprise-D saved the crew of the last freighter, the Sanction, learning the truth of the plague and the exploitation of the Ornarans. Citing the Prime Directive, Jean-Luc Picard returned the crew to their planets but denied to fix their spacecrafts, knowing the Ornarans would recover in time. (TNG episode: "Symbiosis")
After the Enterprise left, Ornara descended into chaos for ten to fourteen years before their society recovered and their culture became focused on physical fitness. In 2381, Ornara was visited by the USS Cerritos as part of Carol Freeman's proposed Project Swing By. Upon finding the planet thriving and having no need for further contact with the Federation. This prompted Admiral Les Buenamigo to send the Cerritos to Brekka where he knew the Breen were as part of his plan to debut the Texas-class. (LDs episodes: "Trusted Sources", "The Stars at Night")
